NSW curriculum review contributes to national process 22 October 2019
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has welcomed the release of the Interim Report of the NSW Curriculum Review today.
“The interim report for consultation, Nurturing Wonder and Igniting Passion, is a thoughtful and valuable contribution to public conversation in relation to the ongoing work of ACARA in refining the Australian Curriculum,” said David de Carvalho, CEO of ACARA.
“ACARA looks forward to engaging with Professor Masters in relation to the interim report’s proposals. In particular, there are opportunities for collaboration on further decluttering the Australian Curriculum, which NSW adopts and adapts according to its particular circumstances.
“What is particularly encouraging about the report is that it sees disciplinary knowledge and general capabilities as interdependent, not separate domains that are in competition and have to be taught and assessed in isolation from each other. This is consistent with the way the Australian Curriculum is structured.”
Mr de Carvalho said the issue of identifying the essential core knowledge that all Australian children and young people are entitled to know in common is a focus of ACARA’s work, and collaboration with all states and territories is vitally important to this process.
