Audit Risk and Finance Committee Independent Member

Be an independent member of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee (ARFC) for ACARA to inspire improvement in the learning of all young Australians.

  • Provide expert advice on risk, governance and controls 
  • 3-year contract with the possibility of reappointment
  • 4 meetings per year 

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is all about education. ACARA’s vision is to inspire improvement in the learning of all young Australians through world-class curriculum, assessment and reporting. Our work ranges from developing the Australian Curriculum to delivering national assessments such as NAPLAN, a nationally consistent measure to determine whether or not students are meeting important educational outcomes, as well as providing comparable information to parents, educators and the community about each of Australia’s schools through our My School website.

ACARA is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for an independent member sit on our Audit, Risk and Finance Committee (ARFC), starting in July 2026.  

We are keen to hear from suitably qualified, experienced and passionate individuals who share our vision and commitment, and have the skills to provide independent advice, assurance and assistance on the ARFC, which reports to the ACARA Board, in the following areas:

  • Risk oversight and management including risk framework, fraud and corruption control arrangements, business continuity and disaster recovery, work health and safety and ICT.
  • Internal controls including framework, legislative and policy compliance, security compliance.
  • External Audit. 
  • Internal Audit including appointment of internal audit service provider, audit framework and audit priorities. 
  • Financial management and reporting. 
  • Compliance and governance.
  • Business improvement, corporate strategic planning, and performance data.

The ARFC Independent Members may be appointed for up to a 3-year term and may be reappointed for a further term (with the total period of continuous membership not exceeding six years).  

The Committee meets at least four times a year virtually and includes pre-meeting briefs. The ARFC may have circular resolutions from time to time.
