Notes and caveats

    • The Similar schools attendance rate/level is calculated using the linear regression formula:
    • Predicted attendance = SCHSEA + ARIA + PERATSI
    • where
      SCHSEA = average student-level socio-educational advantage
      ARIA = remoteness classification
      PERATSI = percentage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
    • The regression model is run within each calendar year, term/semester and school type.
    • The similar schools attendance rate/level for each school is adjusted to the total state attendance rate/level to ensure that, in the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory (particularly), the aggregate predicted result does not overstate or understate the actual attendance result for the jurisdiction.
       Attendance formula
    • In most of the jurisdictions, the adjustment factor is close to 1. However, the adjustment prevents strong skews in socio-educational advantage from disproportionately influencing school-level benchmark results, particularly in smaller jurisdictions.
    • School results are coloured according to the deviation from the predicted attendance rate or attendance level. Schools with results between 0.7 and 1.5 standard deviations above or below the predicted mean are classified as light green or light red respectively, while schools with results greater than 1.5 standard deviations above or below the predicted mean are classified as dark green or dark red respectively.
