Expressions of Interest for the Australian Curriculum: Technologies curriculum writers and advisory group members

ACARA welcomes expressions of interest for the following roles: Technologies curriculum writers and advisory group members.

Expressions of Interest for Technologies curriculum writers

To ensure that the curriculum written is of the highest quality, the selection process will take into consideration the level of experience and expertise in the Technologies learning area; experience in writing and developing curriculum and/or assessment beyond the classroom context; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively; and representation across stages of schooling.

In the Australian Curriculum, the Technologies learning area may include agriculture/primary industries, built environment, digital technologies, design, engineering, food technology and nutrition, graphics, materials and product design (eg metals, textiles, timber).

The writing team will comprise up to 6 writers and will include people with particular expertise across the stages of schooling F–6, 7–12 in addition to expertise in particular Technologies contexts.

Expressions of Interest for Technologies advisory group members for the writing phase

Advisory group members will have extensive knowledge, understanding and expertise in the area of Technologies and experience in the development of curriculum and/or assessment.

The advisory group will assist ACARA and writing team/s by providing advice on draft curriculum including content descriptions, elaborations and achievement standards at key stages in the curriculum development process.

Curriculum development process for the Australian Curriculum: Technologies

The Draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies

The draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies is available for public consultation from Wednesday 14 March to Sunday 3 June 2012.

The draft Shape Paper proposes directions for the development of the national Technologies curriculum for Years F–12. Following analysis of consultation feedback the draft document will be revised and then published as the Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies.

Teachers, parents and other stakeholders in the Technologies field, and members of the broader community are all encouraged to comment on the draft Shape paper through the online questionnaire.

All feedback provided during the consultation period (14 March to 3 June 2012) will be analysed by ACARA to guide the revision of the draft Shape paper before it is published as The Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies. The final Shape Paper will guide the next stage of Technologies curriculum development.

Technologies Advisory Group

The selection process for the Technologies Advisory Group involved the evaluation of over 150 applications from teachers, professional associations, education authorities, academics and industry professionals from all states and territories, and the references from nominated referees for those shortlisted.

The Technologies Advisory Group has been established to provide a balance of informed views on technologies curriculum. Members include curriculum experts from a range of states and territories, technologies specialisations, stages of schooling and stakeholder groups.

Lead writer and co-writers

Professor Lyndon Anderson has been appointed as the lead writer for the development of the Shape Paper for the national Technologies curriculum. Three members of the Advisory Group will assist the lead writer in writing sections of the Initial Advice paper and the resulting Shape paper - Professor Marilyn Fleer, Associate Professor Howard Middleton and Associate Professor Paul Newhouse.
