Phase 3 - The Australian Curriculum

The third phase of the Australian Curriculum development involves Health and physical education, Technologies, Economics and business and Civics and citizenship. Curriculum for these learning areas/subjects will be developed in line with the Curriculum Development Process.

The development of the Shape of the Australian Curriculum papers for these learning areas/subjects is preceded by a process in which ACARA considers positions in relation to a number of key issues.

Initial Advice papers are then developed and discussed at a national forum. Analysis of the feedback guides ACARA in setting directions for the development of the draft Shape papers for each learning area/subject.

Draft Shape papers are then published for public consultation. Analysis of the consultation feedback guides the review of the paper and the publication of the final Shape paper. This provides direction for writers of the detailed curriculum.

ACARA has appointed lead writers to support the writing of the Initial Advice and Shape papers. Each lead writer is supported by an advisory group with learning area/subject expertise. The names and short biographies of the lead writers and composition of the advisory groups is available for viewing under the specific links in the menu to the left of screen.
